We are looking for a Temporary Casual Woodworker with a solid set of woodworking skills and an interest in repurposing wood into a variety of projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the challenge of working with reclaimed materials, crafting everything from structural elements to intricate details, while staying true to our commitment to sustainability.

What We Do:

At Wood Rescue, we focus on giving discarded wood a second life by turning it into useful, durable, and creative wood creations. Our mission is to divert waste from landfills, reduce the need for deforestation to produce new materials, and inspire others to embrace sustainable practices through the craftsmanship of reclaimed wood.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Woodworking & Crafting: Use a range of woodworking skills to create custom wood pieces, from structural supports to detailed decorative elements.

  • Processing Reclaimed Wood: Sort, clean, and prepare reclaimed wood materials for use in various types of projects, ensuring quality and sustainability.

  • Cutting & Shaping: Operate hand and power tools (e.g., saws, drills, planers, routers, sanders) to cut, shape, and refine wood for both functional and aesthetic purposes.

  • Joinery Techniques: Apply traditional joinery methods (e.g., dovetail, mortise-and-tenon) and modern techniques to assemble wood pieces with precision.

  • Finishing: Sand and finish wood surfaces using appropriate methods (e.g., sanding, oiling) to enhance the natural beauty of reclaimed wood.

  • CNC & Laser Machine Operation (Optional): If you have experience with CNC or laser cutting, you'll have the opportunity to operate these machines for more intricate and detailed wood projects.

  • Wood Recycling: Support the team in gathering and processing discarded wood materials, turning them into valuable resources for future creations.

  • Workspace Maintenance: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment, adhering to proper tool safety standards and company procedures.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proven Woodworking Experience: Preferably a minimum of two years experience in woodworking, including proficiency with hand tools and power tools (e.g., saws, drills, sanders).

  • Wood Processing Skills: Familiarity with the process of preparing and repurposing reclaimed wood, including removing nails, sanding, and cutting.

  • Joinery Knowledge: Experience with traditional joinery techniques (e.g., dovetail, mortise-and-tenon) and modern construction methods.

  • CNC or Laser Skills (preferred but not required): Experience with CNC machines or laser cutting/engraving equipment is a plus and would be highly valued.

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to produce high-quality craftsmanship while working with varying types of wood and materials.

  • Sustainability Focus: Passion for sustainability and a commitment to reducing waste through creative reuse of materials.

  • Team-Oriented: Comfortable working collaboratively with others and contributing to a positive work environment.

  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to different types of wood projects, from simple functional pieces to more detailed and intricate designs.

Why Work With Us?

  • Sustainable Impact: Play a key role in diverting wood from landfills and reducing the environmental impact of traditional woodworking practices.

  • Creative Freedom: Work on a variety of projects that allow you to explore different woodworking techniques and showcase your skills.

  • Skill Development: Learn new techniques and grow your knowledge in woodworking and sustainable practices in a supportive environment.

  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a flexible schedule that works around your life.
