Sustainable Waterloo Region 2025 Champion of the Year | Wood Rescue

Sustainable Waterloo Region is doing important work to build a more sustainable, resilient community by helping local businesses and organizations turn their sustainability goals into meaningful action. Through its programs, partnerships, events, and Impact Network, the organization brings people together to share ideas, build connections, and find practical ways to make a positive difference. At Wood Rescue, we’ve experienced firsthand how valuable this kind of support can be. Sustainable Waterloo Region has helped us grow as a business, connect with like-minded organizations, and explore new opportunities to make a greater environmental impact.

We’re incredibly honoured that Wood Rescue co-founders Patrick and Crystal Dufresne were named Sustainable Waterloo Region’s 2025 Champion of the Year. This recognition means a lot to us because it celebrates the work we’re passionate about: keeping usable wood out of landfills and transforming it into new products for businesses and organizations. From awards and signage to corporate gifts and marketing materials, we’re showing that materials considered waste can have a second life as something useful, beautiful, and meaningful. We’re proud to be part of a community that recognizes the value of local innovation and practical approaches to sustainability.

As Wood Rescue continues to grow, we’re grateful to Sustainable Waterloo Region for being part of our journey and for creating a community where businesses can learn from one another, collaborate, and turn good ideas into action. We look forward to building on these connections, finding new ways to rescue and reuse local wood, and helping more organizations share their sustainability stories through the products they use. Thank you to the Sustainable Waterloo Region team and network for your continued support, and congratulations to all the organizations working toward a more sustainable future in our region!
