Explore Waterloo Region Fields and Flavours Trail | Over 4,000 pounds of wood waste diverted from the Waterloo Region landfill

Explore Waterloo Region does a fantastic job of showcasing what makes our region special, connecting visitors with the local businesses, experiences, and people that make it such a great place to explore. The Fields & Flavours Trail is a perfect example, inviting visitors to discover everything from family-run farms and countryside markets to orchards, breweries, farm experiences, and local food producers. Featuring incredible businesses like Moore’s Berries and Farm Fresh Produce, Herrle’s Country Farm Market, Udderly Ridiculous Farm Life, and Willibald Farm Distillery & Brewery, the trail celebrates the people who grow, make, and share the flavours of Waterloo Region. We were excited to help bring parts of this experience to life while putting local wood waste to good use.

Wood Rescue worked with Explore Waterloo Region to create custom signage and oversized wooden games for stops along the trail, adding fun, interactive elements for visitors to enjoy along the way. We also made the wooden arrow directional signage that helps guide visitors between stops and discover more of the amazing local businesses participating in the trail. Each piece was made using wood rescued from the Waterloo Region landfill, giving discarded material a new purpose in a project designed to celebrate our region and its local producers.

One of the things we're most proud of about this project is that over 4,000 pounds of wood waste was diverted from the Waterloo Region landfill to create these products. That's a lot of wood given a second life! Projects like this show how locally rescued materials can become practical, engaging additions to community spaces and visitor experiences. A big thank-you to Explore Waterloo Region for bringing us into this project and for helping showcase the people, places, and sustainability initiatives that make our region special. Next time you're exploring the Fields & Flavours Trail, keep an eye out for the signs, follow an arrow to your next stop, and enjoy discovering something new right here in Waterloo Region!
